Animated Oil Slick Pictorial

When Transformers Animated was first in the shops, and I saw the solicits for Oil Slick's wave, I had no interest in the figure as I hadn't seen it in the show and the toy looked rubbish.Fast forward 6 years and I ended up with the Takara Tomy version of Oil Slick in a lot of toys I got recently, so it has the shiny paint everywhere. I also saw his few seconds of episode time in the show this year. The result? Proper appreciation for one of the most fun Transformers I've ever owned, one of the few Takara Tomy Animated toys that shines next to its Hasbro counterpart, and a toy I simply cannot put down. Also, a toy with a massive slice of imagination and originality, here's the Takara Tomy Animated oil Slick pictorial.

Very stable motorcycle mode, I must admit the rubber-like handles and ram horns were a bit "Seriously?", but I got over that real quick. That chrome finish just works wonders on this toy where it jars on Bulkhead.

Robot mode is the real winner with excellent proportions, those bizarre but essential claws, the most ridiculous weapons/accessories since deluxe Animated Prowl - ridiculous but completely inspired - and a head in a bucket. HIS HEAD IS IN A BUCKET. Thank you to Dan Ghile again for informing me of the fabulous story where the idea to fill his bucket head with water was shelved when they remembered where the toys would be manufactured and the possible hazard of having the water added at the source of that manufacture.

Sadly, Euro-variant Evian Oil Slick never came to be. Neither did the show-accurate Toxic Oil Slick, one of the many crying shames of Transformers Animated. Never mind what we didn't get though, we did get Oil Slick, and specifically this Takara Tomy version. My life is better as a result, what a toy, what a Transformer.

All the best

  1. Hey you forgot to mention the potential green slime they considered putting in his opening barrel! It's amazing that you usually lament features being removed from toys, but in this case Oil Slick remains a winner. I'm so happy you got to realise how fantastic he is, even if it was year later!

I really should get the Takara version. He really does shine compared to the Hasbro one.
