Unique Toys Y-01 Provider (Octane) Teaser Pictorial - UPDATED

Here's Unique Toys' Y-01 Provider, their version of the Decepticon Triplechanger Octane. Is it supposed to be Classics scale? Masterpiece scale? I've got my own opinion that I'll save for Tuesday's Source Article, but for now I've cycled through the modes and taken some pictures. Here's a couple from each mode just to whet your appetites! Also because I just can;t do another 3am photo editing session so this is yer lot.

DX9 D-05 Chigurh - Pictorial

It is astonishing just how prolific DX9/Unique Toys have been recently. They're burning through Not-Terrorcons at a rate of 1 per month and could well have Ordin (Abominus) completed by May. Their War in Pocket line is putting stuff out regularly and there was Invisible, Phantom and now their take on a Masterpiece style Astrotrain - "Chigurh". I wonder if based on the V For Vendetta quote on the back of Invisible's packaging, the inspiration for naming their Astrotrain "Chigurh" comes from the incredibly villainous Anton Chigurh from No Country For Old Men, played by Javier Bardem. Anyway, despite losing one of my lamps for photography, I've done my best to put out a gallery for this show-stopping figure. You know when you've seen Chigurh, Anton or otherwise.

Unique Toys O-03 Fenrir - Pictorial UPDATED

Unique Toys are not wasting time, at all. Hot on the heels of their Rippersnapper (Alberich) comes the third of their 3rd Party Terrorcons, the homage to Sinnertwin, designated O-03 Fenrir. The figure takes its name, like the other two Ordin figures so far, from Norse mythology. Fenrir was the giant monstrous wolf described by Icelandic writer Snorri Sturluson (I've been to his monument!) in his famous Edda. Sinnertwin is no wolf, but I can kinda see how they've locked themselves into a limited number of choices based on the mythology surrounding their Not-Abominus. The full TFSource article review for Fenrir will be up in a couple of weeks, but for now enjoy the pictorial of this production sample. Just to let you know where I'm at, I thought Alberich was great and then I got Troll. I thought Troll was awesome until I got Fenrir. This is the benchmark in  he group so far, it's tremendous. Pictures were done literally minutes after un-boxing so please forgive any mis-transformation of minor kibble.

Extra-Ordin-ary! That sums up UT's first Terrorcon-inspired combiner limb that will one day make up the right leg of their Abominus, or "Ordin". Full article is due on TFSource this coming Tuesday, but for now please enjoy an extensive photo gallery of what is a tremendously good figure. It's literally too good to leave until Tuesday to reveal how much I like it.

Missing the Point? Missed Opportunity?

It's fair to say that my recent TFSource Blog article on the DX9 Invisible "Phantom" version, a translucent blue repaint of the MP-style Mirage, has been one of the least enthusiastically received articles that I can recall since I spent 2000 words comparing G1 copyrights (actually that had 500+ shares on Facebook). On the back of Invisible's seemingly successful launch came the quite attractive (or so I thought) clear deco, just as previous Mirages like Alternators/Binaltech, Classics/Henkei and even Robot Heroes received. For some reason, the feedback on the review for Phantom has been thin on the ground, and when received, not exactly positive.

DX9 03 Invisible - Limited Phantom version Pictorial

Invisible! Inevitable? DX9 aka Unique Toys are following up their interpretation of Masterpiece Mirage with a predictable, but pretty, totally clear blue version of the figure limited to 1000 pieces. Is it 1000? Or am I making that up? Let's go with a 1000. This is an advance review sample, and I have now sampled it. The review will hit TFSource Blog in its entirety maybe 2 weeks from now. Here are the images of the figure in both modes and with the regular Invisible. What I will say is that first impressions are, in this order: WOW that's pretty. Wow that's tight. Goodness, maybe I'll transform it tomorrow. I wouldn't say it's brittle, but there are some extremely hairy joints and squeaks there that remind me totally of Animated Swindle's clear plastic shoulders and elbows. I hope you enjoy the photographs, Ole Blue Eyes is certainly a pretty fellow. But then it's Mirage, I would say that.

Christmas Arrivals 2014

Christmas and birthdays do not often bring me Transformers, that area of my life has always been left to me to attend to. This year, after ordering Hasbro's MP Sunstorm during a crazy TRU UK sale, it was promptly taken off me in the shipping box, wrapped and stuck under the tree. I'm glad, it added to the anticipation and appreciation. Generations Arcee was for my wife as a giggle but she loves it, Continuum Hexatron and Unique Toys Alberich are review samples that arrived yesterday or the day before, but I saved Hexatron for Christmas day. MP Bumblebee is here because he was a recent arrival and, frankly, absolutely sublime.

Unique Toys O-02 Alberich - Pictorial

Another slightly unexpected delivery from Unique Toys after the random Evasion Prime upgrade kit I received a few weeks back, it's their second Not-Abominus limb, the 3rd Party UT Terrorcon Rippersnapper, or "Alberich". The combiner itself, obviously Abominus, is called "Ordin" and the first figure was "Troll", their interpretation of Blot. The whole Ordin team seems to be named after mythical monsters, and Alberich (according to Wikipedia) "is a dwarf, who guards the treasure of the Nibelungen, but is overcome by Siegfried. News of the gold robbery and ring of power incited gods and giants alike to action". Unique Toys O-02 Alberich comes with an Ordin fist as the figure itself forms an arm. Full review and analysis, opinions etc on TFSource Blog very soon, but for now here's a pictorial of this quite charming item. Apologies for the broken accessory in the images (one of the double-barreled guns), but it did arrive that way. Not taking credit for this one!

DX9 03 Invisible - MP Vehicle Mode Pictorial

Earlier today I posted images of DX9's "Invisible" Not Mirage amongst a sea of other Masterpiece figures, official figures, and the reaction online has been quite funny. It seems to have cemented people's views on both sides of the fence. Those that figured it would 'fit' are now adamant, and those that doubted are now certain that it won't. I wonder if the vehicle mode pictorial in Masterpiece surroundings will change anyone's mind?

The idea was that DX9 (Unique Toys) would create a Masterpiece-scaled Mirage that would adequately fill the gap in people's collections until a Takara Tomy Mirage was offered in 20-whoknowswhen. I will be producing a full review on Tuesday night for TFSource Blog, and there's a TFSquare One detailed pictorial from earlier in the week, but just for now, here are some images of Invisible with the current crop of Masterpiece cars. The first one above is of Invisible with the screen-accurate 1984 cars released thus far minus Bumblebee who I am still waiting for. Below, you will find Invisible with all the larger Masterpiece cars as well as Brawny from BadCube. As before, opinions will be reserved for Tuesday, just eye candy for now!

 

DX9 03 Invisible - Teaser Pictorial

Here's a production sample of the upcoming DX9 (Unique Toys) 03 Invisible, what appears to be DX9's Masterpiece-scale G1 Mirage. From the packaging - which is actually quite lovely - you can see they've done some digging through the toy's history. The logo for "Invisible" will seem quite familiar, and you'll see why after the jump.
