Masterpiece MP-36 Megatron - Full Gallery

Welcome to my complete TakaraTomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-36 Megatron gallery, in celebration of reaching 7000 likes on the Transformers Square One Facebook page. I actually had not planned to purchase this figure, such was the expense in getting it to me in Iceland (no pre-order, international shipping, customs etc). I was also concerned about inevitable damage from handling and the fact that some had paint wear straight out of the box. My recent experiences with other paint-flaking MPs did not help. I wrote a whole article about the feelings I was having regarding this purchase.

Cue many "You owe it to yourself", "Best MP ever", "Your collection is not complete without it" comments that actually fuelled my irrational rebellion against buying it, and how people were trying to tell me how to collect and what I should buy. The spite was literally bleeding from the spot on my face where my nose used to be. This was made worse by the fact that the one MP Megatron I did have reserved for me, should I decide to make the purchase, was paint chipped on the face. Wasn't having that, nope, purchase cancelled. End of story.

As it happened, a friend who also had Megatron reserved at the same retailer decided to take the chipped one and touch it up himself, leaving his perfect reserved one for me. This, allied to the fact that I scored last minute cheap flights to the UK around my birthday, meant that I could save considerably on the cost of Megatron (about £50 GBP) due to shipping and customs no longer being an issue. So, I quietly took the plunge and have been exploring, photographing and enjoying the figure away from the Internet and any expectation on me to share thoughts, review or answer any "I told you so" instances. Could I enjoy a new toy away from the hype, away from sharing pictures, approval and unspoken competition with other photographers/reviewers who had already covered virtually all on-screen references and homages in their imagery?

Yes, I could. In spades. I'm now over all of the self-inflicted torture and conflict I went through with the purchase of this expensive figure of a character I did not find essential to my collection. Here are the results, to be revealed in parts.

PART 1 ~ ROBOT MODE (Standard)

PART 2 ~ FACES

PART 3 ~ ACCESSORIES (A)

PART 4 ~ WITH OTHERS

PART 5 ~ ACCESSORIES (B)

  1. Beautiful work Maz.
I keep telling myself that I'm happy with MT's (and I am) but finding it really hard to resist buying him as well.
I'm not happy with the MP direction but it feels wrong not to have an official megs. (Orion2703 on TFW2005)

    1. Thank you so much, mate! From the few times I handled Despotron, he seemed truly lovely. Definitely don't buy MP-36 out of obligation to having an official leader version, I felt the same pressure from everyone to add him and I only did so under the best possible circumstances of cost and hassle and having had the QC checked on him paint wise.

  2. Amazing pics Maz. I am holding off for hopefully a more shiny silver version, here is hoping. Might pick this one up if a new version comes out (and folk are selling) and have both, but don't want to pay full price on this one.

    Cheers Douglas

    1. Thanks so much for the kind words, Douglas! A shiny silver version like the toy would be delicious...I do hope they sort the paint flake and scratching out, as it may look even worse on that version!
