DX9 D06 Carry (Rodimus Prime) Test Shot Pictorial

Here is a long pictorial of a 3rd party Rodimus Prime, inspired by Studio Ox designs and aimed at Masterpiece scaled figures. It's "Carry" from DX-9, designated D06. Full review on TFSource Blog tomorrow night, but for now, enjoy the combination of a wonderful figure and a better camera than before.

DX9 D-05 Chigurh - Pictorial

It is astonishing just how prolific DX9/Unique Toys have been recently. They're burning through Not-Terrorcons at a rate of 1 per month and could well have Ordin (Abominus) completed by May. Their War in Pocket line is putting stuff out regularly and there was Invisible, Phantom and now their take on a Masterpiece style Astrotrain - "Chigurh". I wonder if based on the V For Vendetta quote on the back of Invisible's packaging, the inspiration for naming their Astrotrain "Chigurh" comes from the incredibly villainous Anton Chigurh from No Country For Old Men, played by Javier Bardem. Anyway, despite losing one of my lamps for photography, I've done my best to put out a gallery for this show-stopping figure. You know when you've seen Chigurh, Anton or otherwise.

Missing the Point? Missed Opportunity?

It's fair to say that my recent TFSource Blog article on the DX9 Invisible "Phantom" version, a translucent blue repaint of the MP-style Mirage, has been one of the least enthusiastically received articles that I can recall since I spent 2000 words comparing G1 copyrights (actually that had 500+ shares on Facebook). On the back of Invisible's seemingly successful launch came the quite attractive (or so I thought) clear deco, just as previous Mirages like Alternators/Binaltech, Classics/Henkei and even Robot Heroes received. For some reason, the feedback on the review for Phantom has been thin on the ground, and when received, not exactly positive.

Invisible! Inevitable? DX9 aka Unique Toys are following up their interpretation of Masterpiece Mirage with a predictable, but pretty, totally clear blue version of the figure limited to 1000 pieces. Is it 1000? Or am I making that up? Let's go with a 1000. This is an advance review sample, and I have now sampled it. The review will hit TFSource Blog in its entirety maybe 2 weeks from now. Here are the images of the figure in both modes and with the regular Invisible. What I will say is that first impressions are, in this order: WOW that's pretty. Wow that's tight. Goodness, maybe I'll transform it tomorrow. I wouldn't say it's brittle, but there are some extremely hairy joints and squeaks there that remind me totally of Animated Swindle's clear plastic shoulders and elbows. I hope you enjoy the photographs, Ole Blue Eyes is certainly a pretty fellow. But then it's Mirage, I would say that.

DX9 03 Invisible - MP Vehicle Mode Pictorial

Earlier today I posted images of DX9's "Invisible" Not Mirage amongst a sea of other Masterpiece figures, official figures, and the reaction online has been quite funny. It seems to have cemented people's views on both sides of the fence. Those that figured it would 'fit' are now adamant, and those that doubted are now certain that it won't. I wonder if the vehicle mode pictorial in Masterpiece surroundings will change anyone's mind?

The idea was that DX9 (Unique Toys) would create a Masterpiece-scaled Mirage that would adequately fill the gap in people's collections until a Takara Tomy Mirage was offered in 20-whoknowswhen. I will be producing a full review on Tuesday night for TFSource Blog, and there's a TFSquare One detailed pictorial from earlier in the week, but just for now, here are some images of Invisible with the current crop of Masterpiece cars. The first one above is of Invisible with the screen-accurate 1984 cars released thus far minus Bumblebee who I am still waiting for. Below, you will find Invisible with all the larger Masterpiece cars as well as Brawny from BadCube. As before, opinions will be reserved for Tuesday, just eye candy for now!

Here's a production sample of the upcoming DX9 (Unique Toys) 03 Invisible, what appears to be DX9's Masterpiece-scale G1 Mirage. From the packaging - which is actually quite lovely - you can see they've done some digging through the toy's history. The logo for "Invisible" will seem quite familiar, and you'll see why after the jump.
